A safe haven for Small breed Dogs!
We need your Help!! Yes there are other rescues and shelters, so what makes us different from other groups that we ask for help?!
Well, Lil' Tykes has been rescuing Small Breed dogs since 2002 without funds from county or city. Have depended strictly on the public and on occassion been able to hold Yard Sales.. With Prayers and perserverance Lil' Tykes has managed to keep their doors open and save thousands of companions throughout the years. Being a NoKill, except for extreme medical conditions that make it unbearable for the dog, we give shelter for many years to several rescues. But it doesn't deter us from continuing our strife to help as many as we can.
We are not that different from some groups that exist throughout the U.S., but we do strive to keep on going and improve the facility and care for our companions. To do
so, we need continued help from the public.
We accept Monetary donations, Dog food and treats, supplies like Paper Towels, Bleach, PineSol, Toilet Paper, Brooms and Mops, Water Hoses, and Dog Water Bottles are always a must. We are also in need of building supplies , as well as Volunteers. We always have projects going on, like permanent overhangs over our doorways to give better protection from the elements in both summer and winter months. And over our Kennel areas that have been built to accommodate the overflow of dogs!
With the economy at a slump, folks can't afford to keep their beloved companions and turn to Rescues, like us to find them new forever homes, but it is not that easy to find homes for everyone, so they stay here until we are able to find that new forever home. Sometimes we are able to transport to other facilities in the Mid Fla. area when small breeds are needed. So we will load up a Cargo Van and head down, giving the ones we take another chance in finding that new Forever Home.
Doing Rescue comes with daily expenses from feeding to medical. Those that come to us not Spayed or Neutered will be when slots at the vet become available and funds allow it.. This helps reduce the overpopulation of unwanted animals....We heartworm test everyone that is of age, over 10 months, and if Positive they receive treatment. All are vaccinated unless they come with proof of vaccination. We rescue from owner turn-ins, strays and from High Kill Shelters in surrounding areas that cannot adopt out as fast as they get them in and there, the days for any companion is short lived. There are so many Pure Breds, mixed and just about any New Fashion breed looking for that new forever home.
Some come to us trained or not, some have gone to become champions in some kind of agility sport that folks contend in with their companions.. Look for a couple of short videos later as we build our new site here. Some come to us so scared, some abused. We work with each one as we can on a daily basis to help them recover and realize that not all humans are cruel and there is a life beyond us here at Lil' Tykes.
